Clutch Pressure Plates

KEP new clutch's comes in four load ratings. Be careful that you do not order a stronger clutch than you need. Torque capacities using a stock disc are shown below.

KEP 200mm VW Pressure Plates (8")

KEP STAGE I 
 180 ft. lb.
 Intended to handle any street VW and engines up to 1835cc. Good choice for 5/1600 and 1/2-1600 buggies. Easier on the leg and clutch pedal/cable than stage II.
 
KEP STAGE II
 220 ft. lb.
 Works good in well hopped up VW sand buggies and most other competition VW racing engines. Good for 5/1600, 1/2-1600, 12, and 5 open classes. Hydraulic clutch reccomended.
 
KEP STAGE III
 260 ft. lb.
 Will handle a low compression V-8. Hydraulic clutch pedal set-up a must. Heavy pedal.
 
KEP STAGE IV
 300 ft. lb.
 Used by some drag-racers who are running very large VW engines and nitrous and drop  the hammer at 8000 RPM using an organic disc. Big heavy 4 seat pre-runners and high horsepower V-8 buggies some times use this clutch.
 

If a late style clutch (1971) and later) is ordered, it will be sent without the pad. If you have an early style clutch, the pad can be easily removed for use on a late style transaxle.

25% more torque can be transmitted if a metallic (4 pad or 6 pad) disc is used. It is not recommended for street use due to harsh engagement.

A KEP 200mm double disc system includes 2 discs, a special pressure plate, floater plate and modifications to your flywheel.
100% more torque can be transmitted if a double disc clutch is used.

Ductile iron clutch face, optional, available to satisfy rule requirements enforced by some racing organizations.

 KEP 228mm VW PRESSURE PLATES (9")
 Fits '76 and newer VW Bus, Vanagon, Hewland DG, Fortin, and Mendeola transaxles using the KEP 9" flywheel. Torque capacities using a stock disc are shown below.

9" STOCK
 200 ft. lb.
 Stock 228mm VW Bus pressure plate. Suitable for engines under 3 liter for street use.
 
9" STAGE I
 223 ft. lb.
 This pressure plate works well in Porsche 911 powered 914's or V6 camper vans. Enjoy good holding power and easy pedal effort.
 
9" STAGE II
 273 ft. lb.
 This is the one used by winning unlimited class off-road racers. Also very popular for use in V8 powered 914's under 400 HP.
 
9" STAGE III
 378 ft. lb.
 This pressure plate is designed to handle 500 HP on an organic disc. Good for street or  race applications with lots of power.
 
9" STAGE IV
420 ft. lb.
This pressure plate is designed to handle the larger V8 engines over 500HP.
 

 25% more torque can be transmitted if a metallic (6 pad) disc is used. It is not recommended for street use due to harsh engagement.


All Kennedy Engineered (KEP) Pressure Plates are made in the USA from all new material. They are jig assembled, balanced and tested. These pressure plates will hold up under severe racing conditions and get you to the finish line. These pressure plates have become the standard for all forms of VW racing.
